Claveles - Carnations

No sé por qué razón, siempre había identificado los claveles como algo "ñoño" y anticuado. Me recordaban la imagen de un clavel en la solapa ... Pero esto cambió radicalmente tras pasar por uno de los workshops de Flowers by Bornay, donde aprendí a verlos con otra perspectiva.

I do not know the reason, but I had always thought about carnations as something antiquated. I thought about a carnation on a lapel. But that changed dramatically as soon as I went to a Flowers by Bornay workshop, where I learnt to see them in a very different way.

Flowers by Bornay los utiliza para sus centros planos, que llama carpet, y también en sus ramos. El resultado me pareció muy moderno, y pensé que tenía que probarlos en los queen's. También Sally L. Hambleton había expresado su favor hacia los claveles, por lo que era claro que ellos, los expertos, estaban en lo cierto, y yo equivocada.

Flowers by Bornay uses them in his low centerpieces, called carpet., and also in his bouquets. I found it very up-to-date, so I decided to prove them in the queen's. Sally L. Hambleton had also talked about her love for carnations, so it was clear that they, the experts, were right, as I was wrong.

El tema era cómo ponerlos en un centro sin que me evocaran esa imagen antigua. Y entonces pensé que podían quedar bonitos agrupados, a diferentes alturas, como si imitaran un gorro de baño floreado, de aquellos antiguos, una imagen un poco setentera.

The point was how to use them in a centerpiece in a way they did not seem antiquated. Then I thought they could be nice all gathered, in a different heights, as they imitate a flowered bathing cap, a kind of vintage view.

Y lo probé. Como tienen un tallo duro, se sostienen muy bien dentro del recipiente, sin tener que usar espuma de florista o tela de gallinero. Simplemente, se van colocando en el centro dando la forma que quieres conseguir, primero los más bajos alrededor de la boca del recipiente, y luego los más altos para dar la forma redonda.

So I tried it. As they have a heavy stem, they hold themselves quite well inside the container, without floral foam or chicken wire. They are simply placed inside the vase, giving the shape you want to achieve, first the shortests around the rim, and next the tallers to form a round shape.

Sólo queda entonces romper la imagen monocolor de los claveles, con la combinación de otras flores o elementos, e incluso cubrir el centro con un fino tul.

It is only left to break the one color carnations look, mixing them with other flowers, or covering the center with a fine tulle. I like it, so I have joined carnations lovers club ...
