Autumn centerpiece

Normalmente, cuando voy a hacer un centro de flores, escojo una flor, que será la principal, y luego busco las otras que serán complemento.

When it comes to prepare a flower centerpiece, I use to choose one main flower, and later the secundary ones.

El otro día, en The Boj (www.theboj.com) encontré unos tallos con unas bolas en los extremos, parecían bayas pero mucho más grandes. Me dijeron que eran capsicum, aunque si buscas este nombre en internet resulta que es el pimiento.

I was at The Boj (www.theboj.com) and I found some stems with some balls at the end, something like a berry, but bigger. I was told they were capsicum, but if you look for them in internet, you will find this is the name of pepper.

El caso es que me llevé las capsicum de color naranja, que combinaría en un queen's también naranja, con unos frutos de eucaliptus de tono rojizo y unas ramas de magnolio. 

 

Never mind. I chose the orange ones, to be used in an orange queen's, mixed with eucaliptus fruits in red hues and magnolia branches.

Primero intenté hacer el centro sin usar ningún tipo de sujeción para las ramas, pero enseguida me di cuenta que las de magnolio no se sostendrían bien, de modo que recurrí a la espuma de florista, aunque es un material que tiene algunos detractores.

I tried first to manage the center without any type of fastener, but I soon realized that magnolia branches needed some kind of support, so I used floral foam, although it is not a friendly material for some good florists.

 Seguí estos pasos:

I followed these steps:

Primero clavé las ramas de magnolio, siguiendo las reglas de un centro tradicional, es decir, rama alta en el centro, una rama más baja a cada costado, y otras todavía más pequeñas a la altura de la boca del recipiente.

First I sticked the magnolia branches in the classic manner, I mean, a tall branch in the center, a shorter one at each side, and the shortests near the bottom.

 

Después usé las bolas naranjas, todas a un lado, a diferente altura, pero que quedaran como si fuera un bloque, y unas pocas al otro lado, balanceando el color.

Then I used the orange balls, all in one side, at different heights, but forming a block, and few of them in the other side, just to balance the color.

 Llegó entonces el turno de los frutos de eucaliptus, que puse en el otro lado del recipiente que había quedado libre, confrontado con las bolas naranjas.

It was time for eucaliptus fruits, to be settled at the free side of the center, just in front of capsicum.

 

Y finalmente, fui tapando huecos con madroño que había recogido la semana anterior en una excursión.

And finally, just filling the gaps with some greens that I gathered up some days ago.

 

El centro ya estaba listo, pero aún lo adorné con hojas que había pintado antes con los tonos que iba a usar en el centro, naranja, rojo y cobre.

Muy otoñal.
 

Centerpiece was already finished, but I added some leafs previosly painted in the same colors I was going to use, orange, red and copper.
