No es broma, cuando llegas a Hawaii, lo 1º q encuentras son los collares de orquídeas, que se llaman lei.

I am not kidding, first thing you found arriving at Hawaii's airport is the orchid necklace, called lei.

Los puedes comprar en el mismo aeropuerto, pero si te esperas a llegar al hotel, también es lo 1º que te ofrecen para darte la bienvenida. Como si estuvieras en una película, tal cual.

You can buy them at the airport, or you can just wait until arriving at the hotel as it is also the first thing you receive as a wellcome. It is like you are in a movie.

Así que no tardé en pedir recibir una clase para aprender cómo hacerlas.

Once settled, I asked to receive a workshop to learn how to do it.

Su realización es bastante sencilla. Necesitas una aguja gigante, como la que se ve en la foto, y un hilo un poco grueso.

It is quite simple. You need a big needle, as the one shown below, and a thick thread.

La técnica consiste en ir pasando la aguja por el centro de la orquídea, una tras otra, deslizando suavemente el hilo, con la combinación que cada uno quiera. Yo usé sobre todo flores rosas, y de vez en cuando algunas blancas.

Simple technique consists in moving the needle through the center of the orquid, one after the other, softly sliding the thread, and combining the colours as you like. I used mostly pink flowers, and small groups of white ones.

Cuando el collar tiene el largo que quieres, simplemente sacas la aguja y haces un nudo.

As the necklace has the lenght you desire, just simply take away the needle and make a a knot.

El collar puede durar fresco entre 1 y 2 días, y va bien pulverizar las flores de vez en cuando para que se conserve mejor. Si en lugar de orquídeas se usa plumeria, que es la otra flor típica de Hawaii, el collar dura unas pocas horas.

The neck lace can last for 1 or 2 days, and to improve its conservation it is worth to spray it with water. If plumeria are used instead of orchid, it lasts much more less, only for some hours.
